Seamless HL7 / OLIS Integration and e-Order Transformation Service
Health Futures developed a service layer bridging Ontario's OLIS (Ontario Laboratories Information System) and external systems with the client's Laboratory Information System (LIS). The service receives incoming HL7 e-orders from OLIS, transforms them to XML for LIS processing, and automatically transforms results back to HL7 for return to OLIS — enabling physicians to access reports electronically without delay.
The Challenge
Paper-based requisition handling and manual data entry created delays and data quality issues. Laboratory staff needed a unified way to view, process, and result tests ordered from multiple sources including OLIS and PointClickCare.
The Solution
A secure bi-directional HL7/XML transformation service integrated with OLIS, LIS, and PointClickCare. The service supports a pilot program with select long-term care facilities through PCC, positioning the client for future expansion.
